This guided bicycle tour covers the entire Müritz region. It offers unique scenic views, a rich unusual culture program and overnight accommodation in comfortable castlehotels. The Müritz lies within central Europe’s largest consecutive scattering of lakes, known as the Mecklenburg Lake Plain. Despite its considerable tourist attractions, this lovely landscape offers vast forests, rare flora and fauna unique to the region and isolated yet well-maintained cycling routes. The past ice age left its mark on the landscape; it is not without a few slopes. The rich landscape made an ideal place for a region filled with numerous estates and homes of past rulers. The region’s ever-evolving history and its impressive manors and castles are the main themes of the trip. Those that will be visited or described include the Queen Louise Memorial at Hohenzieritz, the Hunting Castle of Prillwitz, Mirow Castle and the Manors of Wendorf, Rumpshagen and Weisdin. Other stops will serve as places for comfortable overnight accommodation or breaks along the way. The bicycle tour will travel through and visit the small towns of Röbel and Waren as well as the touristy baroque town of Neustrelitz, which was home to a line of nobility. An understanding of the region’s spectacular landscape and nature will be provided through a tour to the Müritz National park and a visit to the “Müritzeum”. Several churches, such as the octagon church of Ludorf, the chapel in Federow and the church of Nätebow will be stops along the way. The present day agriculture and fishery will be interesting topics of the journey. A trip through the birth house and museum of the Troy excavator Heinrich Schliemann and a boat trip on the Müritz are additional highlights.
