Nicknamed “Switzerland of Holstein”, “Holsteinische Schweiz” in German because of its countless small hills, this tour option provides a glimpse into the spectacular and diverse landscape located within Schweswig-Holstein. Interspersed among the hills of Eastern Holstein are countless lakes. Vast forests, meadows, delightful river valleys and rolling hills are the natural features that make this region so spectacular. The riding portions are not without some climbs but are very manageable. The overnight accommodation is situated inthe charming lakeside hotel called “Dieksee”.
Due to the countryside’s wealth of water and the high soil quality, the region’s history has led to settlements of numerous estates and manors in the area. The journey includes a short visit to the Rantzau Manor, which was first referred to in a deed held by Count Adolf IV in 1226 and found in the Preetzer Cloiser. This unique property now houses a horse-breeding farm. The Schönweide, Friedeburg and Grünhaus estates are just a few further examples of fabulous historic sites that will be visited. The Kletkamp Manor is a fine example of well-maintained Dutch baroque-style architecture; the property will be shown in detail. In this visit, the owners will provide an “insider’s tour” of current full-scale renovations.

Two highlights are the visits of the Sierhagen and Hasselburg Manors, which are otherwise closed to the public. Additional gems include the gothic Church of Kirchnüchel and the Roman fieldstone church of Neukirchen. Last but not least, the trip will pass through the “Rose City” Eutin with a tour through the Eutiner Castle, which was recently renovated and has become an increasingly popular attraction. Located in the appealing town of Plön, the castle is the only one in the region built upon a hill. After being sold to the optician Fielmann, the castle’s beauty radiates and recently opened for inside tours. This and the “Prinzenhaus” will be shown. The program will finish with a boat trip around 5 nearby lakes.
